About 40% of the world’s population depend on traditional cookstoves that burn firewood, cow dung and crop residues. Inhaling that smoke and soot leads to about four million
deaths a year. Read in the case study linked below from Qualcomm Wireless Reach how switching to clean cooking technologies can improve the health of women and children who are most exposed to the smoke. The StoveTrace project demonstrates how mobile phones can aid in advancing the economic, health and environmental objectives of individuals and communities. The application was developed by Nexleaf Analytics, USA and TERI under Project Surya ( Watch a video about the project here.
